Design and Build Quality

OnePlus has given the N6x a design that looks more refined than its budget positioning might suggest. The phone is available in Burgundy Red and Ice Blue, with a vertically oriented camera area and softly rounded edges.

The device uses a polycarbonate body and weighs about 214 grams. At roughly 8.65mm thick, it is not an ultra-thin phone, but that is understandable considering the large battery inside.

Durability is one of the more interesting aspects of the N6x. OnePlus lists MIL-STD-810H testing and IP64 dust and water resistance. The company also describes a multi-layer ArmorShell construction designed to improve resistance to everyday drops and impacts.

This does not mean the phone is indestructible. IP64 is not the same as full waterproofing, and military-standard testing does not guarantee that a retail device will survive every type of accident. Still, the durability features are useful additions at this price.

Display: Large and Smooth, But Only HD+

The OnePlus N6x features a large 6.8-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The high refresh rate is one of the phone's biggest advantages during everyday use because scrolling through websites, social media feeds and supported applications feels noticeably smoother than on conventional 60Hz panels.

The major compromise is resolution. The panel uses 720 × 1570 pixels, which places it in the HD+ category. On a screen this large, sharper Full HD+ resolution would have been preferable for users who watch a lot of high-resolution video, read text for long periods or simply want a more detailed image.

For everyday browsing, messaging and social media, the display remains perfectly usable. The 120Hz refresh rate also helps compensate for some of the limitations of the panel by making animations and scrolling feel more fluid.

Performance: Good for Everyday Tasks

Powering the OnePlus N6x is MediaTek's Dimensity 6360 Apex chipset. OnePlus quotes an AnTuTu score above 608,900 using its internal testing setup on the 4GB + 128GB model. Benchmark scores can vary between devices and testing conditions, so they should be treated as a reference rather than a guarantee of real-world performance.

For normal usage, the chipset is targeted at tasks such as messaging, browsing, video streaming, music playback, social media and lightweight multitasking. The phone also supports Dynamic RAM expansion, with the company advertising up to 8GB of combined RAM on the 4GB configuration.

The 4GB physical RAM limit is nevertheless worth remembering. Users who regularly keep many demanding applications open at the same time may notice more aggressive background app management compared with phones offering 6GB or 8GB of physical RAM.

Gaming Performance

The N6x is capable of handling casual and moderately demanding mobile games, but it should not be confused with a dedicated gaming smartphone. The Dimensity 6360 Apex and Mali GPU are designed more around balanced everyday performance than sustained flagship-level gaming.

Battery life is where the OnePlus N6x separates itself from many conventional budget smartphones. It features a 7000mAh-equivalent battery capacity, and OnePlus claims up to 2.5 days of usage under its laboratory testing conditions.

The company reports long endurance figures across different activities, including gaming, video playback, music, social scrolling, calls and navigation. Real-world battery life will naturally vary depending on network conditions, brightness, applications, gaming time and other usage patterns.

OnePlus also includes features such as Night Charging Mode, By-Pass Charging and Reverse Charging. By-Pass Charging can be particularly useful during gaming because compatible usage can reduce reliance on continuously cycling the battery.

The biggest weakness is charging speed. The N6x supports 15W charging, which is relatively conservative for a phone with such a large battery. A 7000mAh cell is excellent for endurance, but filling that capacity takes longer than it would on phones equipped with significantly faster charging systems.

Camera Review

13MP Main Camera

The OnePlus N6x keeps its camera setup relatively simple. The rear system is led by a 13MP main camera, while the front camera uses a 5MP sensor.

The idea is important because budget smartphones can become less responsive as applications become heavier over time. OnePlus says it has used software, hardware and system-level optimizations to maintain a smooth experience over the stated testing periods.

It is important not to interpret this as a promise that the phone will never slow down. Actual long-term performance depends on storage usage, application updates, background processes, battery condition and how heavily the device is used.

Audio and Everyday Features

OnePlus has also focused on media consumption. The N6x includes a larger speaker design and supports a claimed 300% Ultra Volume mode. The company says the device can reach higher volume levels through its oversized speaker and acoustic chamber.

Another useful feature is Aqua Touch, which is designed to improve touch interaction when fingers are wet or oily. This is a small feature, but it can be useful during everyday situations.

The phone also includes a 3.5mm audio jack, making it convenient for users who still prefer wired headphones.

These figures come from controlled laboratory testing and should not be interpreted as a guaranteed battery-health percentage for every owner. Charging habits, heat, usage intensity and environmental conditions can affect battery aging.

Still, the combination of a large battery, Night Charging Mode and By-Pass Charging gives the N6x a useful set of battery-management tools.

Who Should Buy the OnePlus N6x?

The N6x is a strong candidate for users who regularly spend long hours away from a charger. Students, commuters, travelers and heavy media consumers can benefit from the large battery and 120Hz display.

It is also worth considering if you prefer a straightforward Android experience and want durability features such as IP64 protection and MIL-STD-810H testing.
